I also missed the sense of certainty they gave me. I missed them both, even though they frustrated me no end. He’d been part of my… lives… for so long and now he and the Banker, who’d only really become a person in my mind after Mensarius had kidnapped him or whatever it was. “Bad day at the office,” I thought I heard Mensarius’s voice say, but he wasn’t there. I left the party and re-entered the warehouse, needing time to process and consider. I shuddered, feeling fouled, and bowed to my companions and made my apologies. As two decades (it seemed like so much more) of barely fettered rage and hate lifted off of me, I almost flew apart at the seams.
